BAMS (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery) is one of the most respected and sought-after degrees in the field of traditional Indian medicine. It is the only recognized undergraduate program in Ayurveda offered in India, combining the principles of modern medicine with the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda.

The BAMS degree is awarded after the successful completion of 4.5 years of academic education and 1 year of mandatory rotatory internship, making it a comprehensive 5.5-year program. The course covers subjects like Ayurvedic principles, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology (Dravyaguna), pathology (Rog Nidana), surgery (Shalya Tantra), and modern diagnostics, providing a well-rounded education in both traditional and contemporary medical practices.

BAMS graduates are honored with the title “Dr.”, and the degree is considered equivalent to MBBS in terms of status in the medical field. It is often the second preferred choice among students aspiring to enter the medical profession after MBBS.

Students are trained to treat patients using natural healing methods, herbal medicines, panchakarma therapies, and lifestyle modifications. After graduation, BAMS professionals can find employment in Ayurvedic hospitals, government health departments, wellness centers, private clinics, and also in research, academia, and the pharmaceutical and wellness industries.

With the increasing global recognition of Ayurveda and the demand for natural healthcare, BAMS is becoming a highly popular choice among students after 12th in the medical stream.
