BHMS (Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery) is one of the most respected and professional degrees in the field of Homeopathy, a holistic system of medicine that focuses on the natural healing process of the body using diluted substances. BHMS is the only recognized undergraduate program in Homeopathy in India, regulated by the National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH).

The BHMS degree is awarded after the successful completion of 4.5 years of academic study in the subjects related to Homeopathic and allied medical sciences, followed by 1 year of mandatory internship in clinical training. Hence, the total duration of the course is 5.5 years.

Graduates of BHMS are awarded the “Dr.” title and can practice as certified Homeopathic physicians. BHMS is often a preferred alternative to MBBS and BDS for students seeking to practice medicine in a natural, non-invasive way.

The course covers topics like Organon of Medicine, Materia Medica, Repertory, Pharmacy, Pathology, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Practice of Medicine, and a strong foundation in Anatomy, Physiology, and Community Medicine.

After completing BHMS, students have a wide range of career options in Homeopathic clinics, government hospitals, private practice, research, academia, and homeopathic pharmaceuticals. With increasing awareness and acceptance of alternative medicine, BHMS is gaining popularity among medical aspirants after 12th grade.

BDS Eligibility

Students who have completed their 10+2 education with Science stream and subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English are eligible to apply for the BHMS course.

To be eligible, candidates must secure at least 50% marks in aggregate in the PCB subjects. For reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC), the minimum required marks are 40%.

Just like other medical courses, qualifying the NEET (National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test) is mandatory for admission into BHMS.

🎯 NEET Cut-off Criteria for BHMS Admission:

  • General & General-EWS candidates must score at least 50th percentile in NEET.

  • SC/ST/OBC candidates must score at least 40th percentile.

  • Candidates with Benchmark Disabilities must score:

    • 45th percentile (UR/GEN-EWS)

    • 40th percentile (SC/ST/OBC-NCL)

The percentile is calculated based on the highest marks obtained in the All India merit list of NEET for that year.

Thus, NEET serves as the common entrance exam for BHMS, BAMS, BDS, and MBBS, ensuring fairness and merit-based selection for undergraduate medical courses in India.
