Tamil Nadu NEET UG Counselling 2026: Dates (Soon), Registration, Choice Filling, &More!

The selection and admission process for undergraduate medical (MBBS) and dental (BDS) courses is conducted by the Selection Committee, which operates under the Directorate of Medical Education and Research. All admissions are strictly based on the marks obtained in the NEET-UG 2026 examination.

Eligibility Criteria

Domicile & Nativity

Native of Tamil Nadu: Candidates must be natives of Tamil Nadu.

Certificate Requirement: A Nativity Certificate issued by the competent authority of the Government of Tamil Nadu must be submitted. Permanent Residence Certificates are not accepted.

Education in TN: Candidates who studied from Standard VI to XII in Tamil Nadu still need to provide Nativity and Community Certificates to claim communal reservation.

Education Outside TN: Natives of Tamil Nadu who studied any part of VI to XII outside the state must provide Nativity and Community Certificates, plus an undertaking that they haven't applied as a native in any other state.

Eligibility for Other State Candidates

Open Category Only: Candidates who are natives of other states but studied from VI to XII continuously in Tamil Nadu are considered under the Open Category only.

Non-Eligibility: Candidates who are natives of other states and studied their schooling (VI to XII) in other states are not eligible for Government Quota seats.

General Criteria

Citizenship: Must be an Indian Citizen. OCI/PIO candidates are eligible but treated as Open Category (no reservation).

Age Limit: Must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or on/before December 31, 2026.

NEET-UG 2026: Admission is based solely on NEET-UG 2026 marks. Candidates must qualify with the following minimum percentiles:

General: 50th percentile.

SC/ST/OBC: 40th percentile.

PwD (Unreserved): 45^th percentile.

Document Required

Mandatory Candidate Documents

NEET-UG 2026: Admit Card and Score Card.

Academic Records: Class X, XI, and XII Mark Sheets (both sides).

Transfer Certificate (TC): Obtained after completing HSC.

Study Certificate: Proof of study from VI to XII Standard.

Nativity & Community: Nativity Certificate and Community Certificate (if applicable).

Aadhaar Card: Candidate's Aadhaar.

Specific Certificates: Bonafide Certificate from the CEO (for 7.5% Govt School Quota) or Special Category forms (Sports/Ex-Servicemen/PwD).

Parent Documents (For Natives of Tamil Nadu)

Community Certificate: Of either parent.

Income Certificate: Required for those claiming fee exemptions

How to apply

Registration: Visit www.tnmedicalselection.org and click "Apply online for MBBS_BDS 2026-2027".

Separate Applications: You must fill out separate forms if applying for both Government Quota and Management Quota.

Data Entry: Fill in all mandatory columns (Name, DOB, NEET details, etc.).

Uploads: Upload the required documents, your NEET-style passport photo, signature (running hand), and left thumb impression.

Fee Payment:

Application Fee: β‚Ή500 for Govt Quota (Exempted for SC/SCA/ST); β‚Ή1,000 for Management Quota.

Submission: Submit the application and download a copy for your records.

4. Counselling Procedure & Flowchart

The Four Rounds

The counselling is conducted in four distinct online stages:

Round 1: General allotment.

Round 2: Re-allotment and fresh registrations.

Round 3 (Mop-Up): Filling remaining vacancies.

Stray Round: Final stage for any leftover seats.

The Process

Registration & Choice Filling: Only candidates on the Merit List can register and lock their choices.

Security Deposit: To choice-lock Govt Quota seats in Self-Financing colleges, a β‚Ή30,000 deposit is required (β‚Ή1,00,000 for Management Quota).

Allotment: Seats are allotted based on rank and the 69% State Rule of Reservation.

Joining: Allotted candidates must pay the tuition fee online to download their Provisional Allotment Order and then report to the college.
