Counselling for medical seats (MBBS) in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands is primarily

conducted for the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Institute of Medical Sciences (ANIIMS) in

Port Blair. The process is divided into the All India Quota (15%) and the State/Union

Territory Quota (85%).

Eligibility Criteria

To participate in the A&N Islands counselling, candidates must meet the following basic

requirements:

ο‚· Nationality: Must be an Indian National.

ο‚· Entrance Exam: Must have qualified for NEET UG 2026 with the minimum required

percentile.

ο‚· Age: Must be at least 17 years old as of December 31, 2026.

ο‚· Academic: Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English.

o Unreserved/EWS: Minimum 50% aggregate in PCB.

o Reserved (ST/OBC/PH): Minimum 40% aggregate in PCB.

Domicile & "Other State" Rules

The 85% state quota seats are strictly reserved for residents of the Andaman and Nicobar

Islands.

ο‚· Other State Candidates: Candidates from other states are not eligible for the 85% State

Quota. They can only apply for the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats through the

Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) website.

ο‚· Local Requirement: Most local categories require the candidate to have studied the last

two years (Class 11 and 12) in a school within the Islands.

 

2. Reservation Categories (85% Quota)

The local seats are distributed into five specific categories based on the A&N administration's

policy:

ο‚· NEET UG 2026 Admit Card & Score Card

ο‚· Class 10th & 12th Marksheets and Pass Certificates

ο‚· Transfer Certificate (TC) and Character Certificate from the last school attended.

ο‚· Proof of Identity: Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, or Passport.

ο‚· Proof of Birth: Birth Certificate (if not mentioned on the 10th certificate).

ο‚· Domicile/Local Certificate: To prove residency in the A&N Islands.

ο‚· Category Certificate: ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), or EWS certificate if applicable.

ο‚· Medical Fitness Certificate: Issued by a registered medical practitioner (often required

from GB Pant Hospital during admission).

ο‚· Passport Size Photographs: Same as the one used in the NEET application.

How to apply

The counselling process is usually offline for the final seat allotment, though registration may

begin online.

Step-by-Step Process:1. Registration: Visit the official ANIIMS website (aniims.org) when the notification is

released. Fill out the application form with personal and NEET details.

2. Merit List: ANIIMS will publish a provisional merit list based on NEET scores and the

category applied for.

3. Document Verification: You will be called to the campus (usually at ANIIMS, Port

Blair) to verify your original documents.

4. Counselling/Seat Allotment: Based on your rank in the local merit list and your

category, seats are allotted in a face-to-face session.

5. Reporting & Fee Payment: Once a seat is allotted, you must pay the admission fees and

complete the medical examination to secure your spot.
