Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital (FAAMCH) is the fifth medical college of Assam based in Barpeta. The college has been named after former President of India Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. The classes were formally inaugurated in August 2012 by then health minister of AssamHimanta Biswa Sarma, after it received the permission from the Medical Council of India even though the hospital section was inaugurated on 11 February 2011.

It is affiliated with Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health SciencesGuwahati.
The college has a current intake of 125 undergraduate students per year.

 

Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital is the newest addition to the emerging medical education scenario in Assam. The first medical school of Assam was established 100 years back in Dibrugarh as Berry White Medical School. The same school was upgraded to Assam Medical College in 1948 on 3rd of November. Gauhti Medical College in Guwahati and Silchar Medical College in Silchar were established in 1960 and 1968 respectively. Then following a long gap of more than 40 years, three new medical colleges at Jorhat, Barpeta and Tezpur were proposed. Of these Jorhat Medical College has been inaugurated on 12-th October, 2009.

At present Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College has 100 seats (MCI recognized) in MBBS course, and we have recently gained permission for Post-Graduate Courses in the following subjects, Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Pediatrics, Radio-diagnosis, Pathology, Microbiology, and Biochemistry.
