This institution was established in the year 1996 by our Founder Chairman,(Late) Dr.A.Shanmugasundaram, a noble Philanthropist and Educationist of extraordinary vision in the field of education who is the founder of Vinayaka Missions Research Foundation - Deemed to be University.
In 2003, Vinayaka Missions Medical College and Hospital received permanent recognition from the Medical Council of India (MCI), Ministry of Health, Government of India. It was also renewed in the year 2010.
The Medical Council of India has recognized Post Graduate courses in General Medicine, General Surgery, Dermatology, O&G, Paediatrics, Anesthesiology, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, ENT, Biochemistry, Radiology and P.G Diploma courses in D.C.H., D.G.O., D.Ortho., D.O., D.A., D.DVL in this Institution from the Academic year 2006-2007.
The Vinayaka Mission’s Medical College, Karaikal was recognized as a constituent College of Vinayaka Missions University listed in W.H.O. and FAIMER - International Medical Education Directory (IMED) in the year 2004 with the college code:F0000985 duly recommended by Government of Pondicherry, approved and recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI) under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare (MOHFW) and University Grants Commission (UGC) under Ministry of Human resource Development (MHRD), Government of India (GOI).

Vinayaka Missions Medical college & Hospital, Karaikal has 590 bedded hospital. The hospital is fully equipped with state-of-art diagnostic and therapeutic departments to facilitate treatment of an extensive range of diseases. The hospital also provides special health care schemes like Chief Minister’s Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme(CMCHIS), ESI facilities. The entire campus of Vinayaka Missions Medical College spread over an area of over 70 acres and offers all the facilities, to the students and the faculty, that are encouraging for learning consisting of adequate museums, laboratory , air - conditioned library, air-conditioned skill labs , Wi - fi facilities , online library access, e - learning resources , 24 x 7 emergency care facilities with laboratory and imaging facilities ,students counseling, periodic parent - teacher meetings and research facilities , Gymnasiums at hostels and sports grounds.
