GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Hospital that was started in 2014 spread its wings into a medical college with the first batch of its UG students joining in the year 2015. Currently, the institution has 600 undergraduate students and geared up to start its PG programs in the next academic year.
GITAM Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, popularly known as GIMSR, was established in the year 2015. It is the first deemed medical college in the private sector in Andhra Pradesh, established beside the picturesque GITAM University in Rushikonda, Visakhapatnam, with all modern amenities conducive to student learning. Today, GIMSR is a name synonymous with quality medical education which attracts people not only from Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring Telangana but also from other states across India.
GIMSR has one of the most pleasing learning environments in Andhra Pradesh with infrastructure and faculty that support students to hone their skills to become outstanding medical professionals. True to its mission that states that “To impart futuristic and comprehensive education of global standards with a high sense of discipline and social relevance in a serene and invigorating environment”.
GIMSR has strong academic and research linkages supported by multidisciplinary colleges in the GITAM University across the three campuses in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad and Bengaluru. It gives our students and faculty incredible opportunities to learn and do research, true to the vision statement of the institute “To become a global leader in higher education”.
The UG course conducted by the institution is due for recognition by the Medical Council of India/National Medical Commission. GIMSR is a constituent college of GITAM (Deemed to be) University. UGC-MHRD recognizes it as Category-' I ' Deemed to be University, NAAC 'A +' Grade in 2017 - a remarkable achievement for a multidisciplinary institution, University Grants Commission (UGC) granted 12 (B) status to receive research grants.
Going by the quality policy of the college “To achieve global standards and excellence in teaching, research and consultancy by creating an environment in which the faculty and students share a passion for creating, sharing, and applying knowledge to continuously improve the quality of education”, GITAM (Deemed to be) University, including GIMSR is spread on sprawling campus. It offers all the facilities to the students and the faculty that is conducive to learning, including museums, library, skill labs, sports grounds, gymnasium and international level indoor multi-purpose sports complex, Wi-Fi facilities on the entire campus, e-learning facilities, online library access, hospital and emergency care facilities, counselling for students, teacher-guardians and inter and intradisciplinary research facilities to hone the research skills.
