'Government Medical College, Kannur or Paraiyaram Medical College was established at Pariyaram in Kannur districtKerala state, South India. It was the first medical college to be established under the co operative sector in India.

The institution is situated in an area of 119 acres (48 ha) in a hilly rural area (Pariyaram), 9 km north of Taliparamba, 31 km away from district headquarters Kannur and 11 km south of Payyanur on the National Highway 17. The population in this area lacks specialised medical care facilities. The nearest Medical College, Mangalore, is 125 km to the north. In the beginning, the hospital and colleges started functioning in the buildings owned by the erstwhile tuberculosis sanatorium at Pariyaram.

First batch started in 1995 with hundred students. On 9 February 1997, the state government took over the control of the management of the institutions. The government has constituted a committee named Board of Control to run KCHC and ACME. The takeover was initially for a period of two years ending on 8 February 1999. The period was extended periodically six months at a time until 2 December 2000. This act was repealed by the ordinance taking over assets and liabilities of both KCHC and ACME. It was during this period the present buildings and structure of the institute were built by sanctioning government fund by the then chief minister Shri E K Nayannar.

Pariyaram Medical College, was again decided to be taken over by government of kerala at a cabinet meeting, presided over by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on 11 April 2018. Later the administration was taken over by an ordinance signed ny the Governor. It has again extended to six months on 4 June 2018. Now it still is under the administration of Board of Control whose chairman being the District Collector.

The institute now runs a CBSE school from LKG to12th standard, Dental College, Pharmacy College, School of Nursing, College of Nursing and Paramedical college.
